Suggested Tune Ascalon (Crusader) (6.7.9.6.6.8.) from Münster Gesangbuch 1677

1. Like trees by water deep
may our roots in you be steeped
we thirst the life flowing from your word.
nourish and feed our souls
heal us all, come make us whole
for you alone are Life and Lord.

2.  Shield us from sharpened tongues
uncontrolled in hurtful run,
that would cut down fruit that we might bear
Shelter us, hold us close
that where your wisdom flows
we would be found to prosper there.

3.  God is our pruning knife,
ever constant source of life,
He cultivates wisdom in our hearts
weeds out self-centredness
nurtures His love in us
that we would first care for the last.

4.  We would give all to be
children in your family
Enable us for the sacrifice!
Lord, plant us near to you,
make our roots firm and true
to soak up words of Truth and Life.
